Must eat ORGANICS (fruits/veggies)
I have briefly touched upon the organic topic in the PLU codes post. If you haven’t seen it yet, check HERE. If you don’t already know, most of the foods at the grocery are conventionally grown. They differ greatly from how the organic foods are grown. The term organic is not interchangeable with the word natural. The word natural can be applied anywhere. However, there are production regulations when it comes to using organics in labels. In the US, “USDA ORGANIC” is used to refer to foods that are certified organically. Organic foods are grown like how they were used to be back in the days, when you didn’t have access to chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, antibiotic and growth hormones for animals. Instead of using all that man made chemicals, manure and compost are some of the options when it comes to natural fertilizers. Mulching, hand rotation, hand weeding are natural weed controls and nets are used for controlling insects/animals. Not only are people benefiting from chemical free produce, they are also obtaining higher nutrition. Organic foods contain higher amounts of vitamins C, D, E, beta carotene, polyphenols, antioxidants, flavonoids.. Therefore, you are paying more for the nutrition when it comes to buying organic even though it’s higher in price.
The following are foods that contain the highest pesticides level when produced conventionally. Thus, it’s best to buy these foods organically!
SAFE conventional foods can be eaten due to low pesticides levels.
